Adeyemi Badewa

Adeyemi Saheed Badewa is an interdisciplinary researcher in history, international studies, and global development. After a bachelor’s degree in history and international Studies, he earned his MA in History and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and a PhD in International Development from the University of the Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa. His PhD thesis examined the dynamics of regional security, development and migration arising from the desiccation of the Lake Chad basin and insecurity in the Sahel. He was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship, 2019/2020, at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Canada. Since 2022, Adeyemi was enrolled on a Master of Public and International Affairs (MPIA) - International Political Economy (IPE) concentration, at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs (GSPIA), and a PhD in Africana Studies, in 2023.

Adeyemi’s research interest lies at the intersection of security-development, political economy, migration, transnational governance, and transformative justice. His recent work focuses on aspects of migration and the African diaspora, Trafficking in Persons, statelessness and development, and the political economy of migration governance in Africa and its transgenerational, transcontinental effects. He has tangible expertise in teaching and research, consulting and fieldwork experience with academic institutions and multilateral organizations including the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the African Union (AU). Adeyemi is an associate editor of Ìrìnkèrindò: a Journal of African Migration (IJAM), affiliated with the City University of New York (CUNY) and indexed in the Columbia University Online. His work aims to bridge gaps in the African migration and diaspora research through a political-economy analysis framework while advancing the core of Afrocentric and Pan-African perspectives.
