Africana Studies Returns to Its Roots

Yolanda Covington-Ward, chair of the Department of Africana Studies, discusses the department’s future in the African Heritage Room in the Cathedral of Learning. She is working to increase awareness about the major among students and to reestablish community ties that date back to the department’s origin. “Our department is one of the few that teaches students to be competent in discussing issues of race, representation, equality and inequities.
